Repairs to State highway 1 under the Deborah Overbridge, just south of Oamaru, later this month aren’t expected to cause major delays for road users, although a short detour will be in place for some of the time.
The cost of the work is $65,000.
The Transport Agency says the job will start, weather permitting on Monday 21 September and finish on Friday 2 October, with the contractors on site from Monday to Saturday between 9am and 4pm. The job involves installing new drainage and road surface improvements.
During the first week, the highway will be down to one lane with traffic lights or stop and go in place, so motorists should expect short delays.
The second week, starting on Monday 28 September, will see the pavement work carried out, and will mean a full closure of the highway with a detour as per the map below. This will be in place between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Saturday and add an extra ten minutes travel time for motorists. Outside of these times the highway will be open, but down to one lane controlled by traffic lights or stop and go.
The detour route from the south back into the centre of town is: SH1 Oamaru Alma Rd – Whiterocks Rd – W View Dr – Weston Rd – SH1 Wansbeck St.
