Smoother road ahead for SH88 users

By early next month motorists driving between Dunedin and Port Chalmers should be enjoying a smoother road surface through the Ravensbourne section of SH88.

By early next month motorists driving between Dunedin and Port Chalmers should be enjoying a smoother road surface through the Ravensbourne section of SH88.

Resealing work, weather permitting will start on Monday 4 May 2009 on the section of SH 88 through Ravensbourne starting about half way between Parry St and Tekapo St, and finishing at Adderly Tce.

Motorists can expect delays as the road will be reduced to a single lane during working hours and there will be speed restrictions in place. Every effort will be made to avoid work during peak hour morning and evening traffic periods.

The NZ Transport Agency says this work will reduce the need for ongoing maintenance on this section of SH88. Once the new seal is laid, nearby residents and businesses should also appreciate the reduction in traffic noise from trucks and trailers generated by the current bumpy road surface. Prior to the sealing work, large sections of the pavement lanes will be removed causing some bumpiness at the start and end of each section of highway where this work has been carried out.

The NZTA regrets any inconvenience to road users and appreciates their patience while this vital safety work is carried out.

Information on this project will also be available on the NZTA’s Highway Info website at www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link).
