Take care on the roads - wet Easter weather forecast for the lower North Island and upper South Island

|

With wet weather forecast for the end of the Easter holiday weekend coinciding with higher traffic flows, drivers are being asked to be extra cautious on the roads.

The Metservice has a heavy rain warning for northwest Tasman and Golden Bay from 5 pm today until noon on Tuesday. A heavy rain watch is in force for the Richmond Ranges and the Rai Valley from 7 pm tonight until 11 pm on Tuesday.

In the North Island, a heavy rain watch has been issued for the Tararua Ranges between 1 pm and midnight on Monday.

The bad weather will coincide with people returning from their holidays. Road users must drive to the conditions and ensure they keep themselves and others safe on the roads.

Be safe, be seen, watch your speed and following distances.

Drivers should also be ready for unexpected hazards, as heavy rain can cause localised flooding and bring down slips. As bad weather can close highways at short notice, drivers should check road conditions before they travel.
