Following a series of earthquakes and aftershocks throughout Monday 14 November, the NZ Transport Agency is continuing to assess state highways across the top of the South Island and where possible, safely reopen parts of the highway closed by slips.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising that due to a series of large earthquakes throughout the morning of 14 November, sections of State Highway 1 between Blenheim to Christchurch, and State Highway 7 between State Highway 1 and Springs Junction (Lewis Pass) are closed.
Road users in the Bay of Plenty may see contractors out in force over the coming weeks carrying out re-seals or improvements to the State Highway network.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising people to heed tsunami warnings in the areas affected. For non-essential travel the Transport Agency is advising that people delay travel on State Highway 1 between Picton to Christchurch, and over the Lewis Pass, while contractors make further assessments following a number of earthquakes in the early hours of Monday 14 November. A number of sections of State Highway 1 and State Highway 7 are closed due to slips and visible damage.
The annual Bike the Bridge event takes place this weekend and will involve lane closures to the Northern Motorway and Auckland Harbour Bridge between 12.00am (midnight) and 10.00am, Sunday 13 November.
The NZ Transport Agency advises of the following closures for motorway improvements. Closures start at 9pm and finish at 5am, unless otherwise stated. The State Highway 2 off-ramp at Ngauranga, Wellington will be closed for resurfacing and new road marking on the night of Sunday 13 November, from 10pm until 5am Monday 14 November.
