The NZ Transport Agency is advising road users that starting tonight it will be carrying out road surface repairs as part of the safety improvements underway on State Highway 14 near Hospital Road in Whangarei.
State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura was closed around 1 pm *, Easter Saturday, after a fresh slip north of an old slip site at Rosy Morn, brought down several thousand cubic metres of material. The new, large slip is around 3 km southwest of Peketa.
The NZ Transport Agency reopened State Highway 1 south of Kaikoura just before 3 pm today after clearing numerous small slips triggered by heavy rain. The highway closes at 6 pm each night and should reopen at 7 am tomorrow, barring more slips or bad weather overnight.
The NZ Transport Agency is asking people to consider delaying their travel today as there are still a number of State Highway closures in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. Here's an update at 1.20pm.
