Staff working on the Huntly section of the Waikato Expressway have dug in more than 1300 natives to protect an isolated pocket of at-risk black mudfish found in a farm drain.

More than half of the debris from the 5500m3 slip on State Highway 2 at the Waioeka Gorge has now been cleared, but the site remains active and more work is needed to get the road open.
The NZ Transport Agency says work to remove the slip on State Highway 2 between Opotiki and Gisborne is well underway with several trucks clearing the debris at both ends.
