The Local Electricity Market Guidance for the transport sector is designed to provide an easy-to-understand guide on the issues and options associated with electrifying vehicle depots.

While the guidance is focussed on electrifying bus depots, the guidance is designed to inform discussions between electricity sector participants on the provision of electricity infrastructure and power supply for the electrification of heavy commercial fleets.

At a high-level, the guidance includes:

• what is involved in obtaining the electricity infrastructure (including connection to the electricity distribution network) and power supply required for an electrified vehicle depot,
• the choices around managing the infrastructure, minimising future upgrades and ensuring resilience,
• how to ensure that engagement between depot owners/operators and the electricity distribution business is productive,
• background information on the New Zealand electricity sector, and
• the regulatory environment governing electricity distribution and supply.
