New roundabout installed at Glendale/Oates Road in Glen Eden

Auckland Transport invested $6.5 million for safety treatments in the Glen Eden Village town centre that will deliver safe system measures at eight locations along the corridor and a safe and appropriate speed for the town centre.

The two key safety problems addressed are pedestrian safety and speed as this is a town centre as well as the location of the Glen Eden railway. There will be no change to sign posted speed of 50km/h but the following infrastructure changes will manage speed through the village:

  • two raised safety platforms on West Coast Road with
  • additional raised mid-block signalised crossing facility
  • three additional crosswalks at existing signalised crossing
  • two roundabouts with raised pedestrian zebra crossings
  • two additional pedestrian crossings on Captain Scott Road and modified turning movements.

This project has transformed Glen Eden into a much safer, pleasant and accessible place for people in the town centre and connects to the Glen Eden railway station.
