Plan ahead if you are travelling across the South Island from the early hours of Thursday morning, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency. MetService is forecasting snow across central and southern parts of the South Island that may make driving conditions hazardous.
With the new Dunedin Hospital being built in the central city, Dunedin has a unique opportunity to look at options to create a transport system that’s safer, better connected and offers a range of travel choices.
Good progress is being made on the SH88 Dunedin to Port Chalmers Safety Improvements project, which includes completing the final leg of the shared path from St Leonards to Port Chalmers, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Senior Project Manager Jason Forbes.
Motueka and Tasman Bay drivers who use the Motueka River Bridge, SH60, between Motueka and Riwaka, after 9 pm at night will face a detour route from this Sunday night, 21 June (please note, this date is a week later than originally notified, due to the weather forecasts. Check the link below to be sure this work starts this weekend).
UPDATE (7 June 2020): Takaka Hill road, SH60, the road link between Tasman Bay and Golden Bay, will be closed to traffic between 9pm and 5am Monday and Tuesday next week, 8 and 9 June, says Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency last week advised it had updated its winter highway management around the South Island. This included a change to the management of SH73 Porter’s and Arthur’s Passes for this winter. The two passes form a key route linking Canterbury and the West Coast and the communities along the way.
