Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that State Highway 1 (SH1) will close from 7am tomorrow, Thursday 6 July, around the side of Lake Taupō, to recover a logging truck that has gone over the edge at Te Pōporo (Bulli Point) this afternoon.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that the Pekatahi Bridge, located north of Tāneatua on State Highway 2, didn’t close today as previously advertised but will close daily for structural maintenance from tomorrow 4 July until Friday 7 July.
People will be able to see the proposed footprint of Stage Two of the Takitimu North Link project with public engagement now open – marking a significant step forward to protect this route, and extending the new State Highway 2 onward to Ōmokoroa.
Significant repair work continues on a number of roads across the Waikato & Bay of Plenty region, as well as further afield, following recent extreme weather.
During July, there will be several changes and overnight closures around SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange and the Bayfair roundabout, as construction continues in the area as part of the Bay Link project.
While work continues on the slip site at Ruamahunga on State Highway 25 today, contractors will be piloting waiting vehicles through on the hour from 2pm.
Motorists heading through Hamilton on State Highway 1C this Sunday 2 July are advised that Stop/Go traffic control will be in place from 8am to 3pm at the Cobham Drive and Cambridge Road intersection.
Update 7.30am 28 June 2023: SH25 will not reopen. Due to further rockfall overnight, contractors cannot pilot vehicles through between 7.30am – 8.30am as planned this morning.
Physical works are underway for the construction of a bridge reconnecting State Highway 25A, to be completed by the end of March 2024. The summit of SH25A between Kōpū and Hikuai collapsed during the North Island’s major storm event in late January and remains closed.
State Highway 25 will re-open from 3.30pm this afternoon to allow road users to travel past the Ruamahunga slip site, however the road will close again from 5.30pm.
Despite contractors making good progress clearing today’s slip at Ruamahunga – geotech engineers advise it is not safe to reopen State Highway 25 today.
