January – September 2023
Watch the fourth and final ramp at SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange being built – from the ground up to connect SH2 north and westbound traffic with the interchange and SH29A.
New signalised SH2 Bayfair roundabout
September 2023
Driving, walking and cycling locally in the Matapihi and Arataki area will be safer with the new, signalised Bayfair roundabout becoming operational in early November as part of the Bay Link project. The roundabout will return to two lanes and feature new traffic signals.
Temporary route through SH2/SH29A Te Maunga interchange

Bay Link has come a long way in the space of a year. Here’s what has changed in 2022 at Bay Link.
Installation of final beams at the Bayfair flyover
August 2022
The final set of beams was placed across the fourth and final span of the Bayfair flyover. Construction will continue on the flyover’s northern ramp, and reinforcing steel will be tied on top of the new bridge span before the concrete deck for this span is poured.
SH2/29A Te Maunga interchange partial opening
July 2022
Work leading up to the partial opening of the new Te Maunga interchange on 4 July, at the State Highway 2 and 29A intersection at Baypark. The partially opened interchange is used by people travelling on SH2 from Mount Maunganui and SH29A from Maungatapu.
Progress at SH2 Bayfair flyover
April – July 2022
The SH2 Bayfair flyover is taking shape with beams lifted into place to form three spans of the four-span SH2 Bayfair flyover. Work continues on the flyover, including the flyover’s northern flyover ramp.
Installation of further six beams at the Bayfair flyover
May 2022
Further six beams were placed across the third span of the Bayfair flyover. Construction will now continue on the flyover’s northern ramp which will emerge out of the ground. Beams for the final span of the flyover are currently programmed to be installed in winter 2022.
Installation of 12 beams across two spans of the Bayfair flyover
April 2022
Concrete beams were placed across two spans of the four-span Bayfair flyover in April marking another construction milestone for the project.

Underpass construction progress

The Bay Link project achieved another construction milestone in February 2021 with placement of concrete beams across the first of the project’s three bridges.

Bay Link: 2018–2020
- Baypark to Bayfair Link new road layout, February 2020
From Wednesday 12 February 2020, traffic lights will be operating on the city-bound lanes near the Bayfair roundabout. Pedestrians and cyclists will need to use a combination of traffic lights and the existing underpass, which remains open.
A raised platform will be in place to slow motorists down, and escorts will be at each of the crossing points to assist users with the new arrangement.
This is a considerable change for all road users so please take extra care while adjusting to the new layout.
