In May 2021, we engaged with the communities in Bulls and Sanson about the infrastructure improvements.

In our community engagement an overbridge was suggested by some people however the cost of constructing and maintaining an overbridge would outweigh the safety benefit from it in this location.

We also heard during community engagement that it would be ideal to have the shared use path constructed from Sanson all the way to Bulls. At this stage we are progressing with construction of the shared use path between Bulls and Ohakea but are considering the viability and funding of it being extended further.

Community engagement

Speed management

When we spoke with communities in the area about the proposed infrastructure improvements, we also engaged on the current state highway speed limits.

Between 14 November – 12 December 2022 we consulted on proposed changes to speed limits near some schools on SH1/SH3 in the area, as part of an Interim State Highway Speed Management Plan. We’re considering feedback from this consultation alongside existing information to finalise the interim plan.

Interim Speed Management plan

Taking into account feedback received during the engagement phase, we are considering including other sections of SH1/SH3 between Bulls and Sanson in the full speed Full State Highway Speed Management Plan which is currently being developed.
