The Hawke’s Bay Expressway Road of National Significance (RoNS) project is in full swing. Work between Taradale Road and Links Road/Pākōwhai Road began in November.

While we’re underway with building the new lanes, detailed design for the Links Road/Pākōwhai Road overpass is also progressing. This is a critical improvement to ensure the benefits of 4-laning between Taradale Road and Links Road/Pākōwhai Road are fully realised, and traffic keeps flowing smoothly.

Getting ready for construction – site set up at Meeanee Road – in progress

We’re preparing for the next stage of works at the Meeanee Road as part of building an additional overpass.

Bridge construction at Tutaekuri River – in progress

Site set up at Tutaekuri River started in mid-September. Works are underway to build the new Tutaekuri Bridge.

Design of the overpass at Links Road/Pākōwhai Road – underway

The design of a grade-separated interchange (overpass) including two permanent roundabouts is underway. We expect construction to begin in mid-2026.

Enabling works between Links Road/Pākōwhai Road and York Road – underway

Geotechnical investigations between Links Road/Pākōwhai Road and York Road are now complete. Ground improvements at the Ngaruroro River Bridge will start in January 2026.

Design of Taradale Road to Links Road/Pākōwhai Road – underway

In March 2025, detailed design of the 4-laning between Taradale Road and Links Road/Pākōwhai Road got underway. In this phase, we’re refining plans and the design.
