Ground improvements at the SH2 Ngaruroro River Bridge are on track to begin in January 2026 and will take approximately 4 months to complete.

Consents were granted in November, following completion of geotechnical investigations in August that determined the preferred design for this work.

In January, you’ll notice activity 500 metres north and south, and around the bridge, with enabling works underway on the western side of the expressway. A site compound will be established to store materials and equipment while providing office space and toilets for our contractors working on site.

The work involves raising the land and creating a wide, flat surface. Silt is compacted onto the existing natural ground and left to settle.

The stopbank on the northern side of the bridge will require minor realignment of the access track which will allow room to store materials.

This work will support any future investment in the expressway corridor.
