State Highway 25 between the townships of Kuaotunu and Whitianga has now reopened, after multiple slips along the stretch of road following Friday’s heavy rain.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that while a solution is still being worked on, it will be around nine to 12 months before State Highway 25A is fully re-opened in the Coromandel.
As the response to the widespread impact of Cyclone Gabrielle continues, road renewals and project activity has been able to re-commence, in part thanks to a run of warm sunny weather gracing the Waikato and Bay of Plenty region.
Over 100 structures, such as bridges and large culverts, on state highways in Hawke’s Bay have now been inspected following the devastation unleashed on the network by Cyclone Gabrielle.

State Highway 25 is now open around the entire perimeter of the peninsula thanks to the huge efforts of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s local contractors today.
The road into Raglan is targeted to reopen at the end of the month. That’s the latest advice from the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency team, who have been working hard to build a temporary diversion road around the major slip site that closed State Highway 23 (SH23).
